Free will

Storm grazing with clouds behind him.

I sat down to write this blog post, and there were no words coming, so I laid down to meditate.

By now, I’ve learned enough to know that the best way to find answers is by getting quiet (not that I employ that technique often enough, but at least I know it).

My thoughts were bouncing all over the place, and I was shown/felt a moth being caught in a spider’s web. Not one of the pretty neat flat webs, but one of those messy webs in a corner and strung all over the place in all directions.

Stuck, fluttering, trapped.

And then I had the sensation of simply stepping out of the web. As uncomplicated as that. Just stepping out of the entrapment.

That’s the difference between the humans, and the rest of the universe. We have free will.

You can simply step out of the entrapment.

You do have a choice.

So often we feel at the mercy of all the energies and emotions and stresses around us, and we get swept away by them. We spend so much of our time and energy fluttering around trying to rid ourselves of the silken strands of the web we’re caught in.

We forget that we simply don’t have to participate in that energy.

We do not have to allow ourselves to be buffeted by the storms. We can choose how we feel about the weather at any given moment, even the intense ones.

And just because there is weather doesn’t mean we have to feel any kind of way about it at all.

Our pets do not get that choice.

They are a part of nature in a way that means they cannot separate themselves from the energies around them. They can only act instinctually based on whatever it happening at the time.

And that means that they have to live in whatever energies we are contributing to the moment. They get no choice to leave, or take a break, or go away. They’re stuck with whatever weather we show up as on any given day.

How are you showing up for your pets?

When the weather starts to get wild, how do you manage it so that you’re not subjecting your pets to the same storm you are in?
