What is Energy?
What is energy?
What does it mean to put your energy into your feet? Or to not have your energy in your body?
These questions can feel vague and impossible to wrap your head around, until you get it.
But once you know, you know.
Everything is made up of energy. Think about people - there are some people that you would say have a calming presence. Or are exciting to be around. Or someone walks in the room and it feels lighter.
All of these things could be used to describe someone’s energy.
Every one of us has an energetic presence.
We can work with our own energy - but only if we are aware of it in the first place.
The easiest way to begin to find your own energy is to become aware of your own body.
Can you feel your feet?
What about your butt on the chair?
Your hands holding your phone as you read this?
Or the mouse in your palm?
If you struggle to bring your awareness into a specific body part, then you will not have energy there.
Sometimes we can pull our own energy out of areas of our body - this can happen for a number of reasons - it could be to protect ourselves from something. We frequently learn to do this when we are young when we encounter situations that our nervous system can’t handle. Unfortunately, this can become a pattern that we still default to in adulthood that is not helpful.
Why does this matter to our pets?
When we have holes or gaps in our energy presence, our pets can feel that. They know when we aren’t completely “here” both in the energetic realm and in the physical. Not being fully present energetically means we really aren’t fully present physically or mentally, either. Many times these patterns can get worse if we are under stress or experiencing anxiety or fear for some reason - which causes stress for our pets, too.
If you have found gaps or holes in your awareness of your body here’s a few things to explore:
▶ Begin by experimenting to see if you could put your awareness into that area, even just a tiny bit. Or more of your awareness a tiny bit closer, and see what happens.
If our nervous system has avoided allowing energy to flow completely through your body for a long time, it can bring up feelings of anxiety, or fear. That’s ok, and not abnormal.
Taking it slow and really observing the process will help.
There are no wrong answers - only exploration.
Notice how your pet responds as you do this. They may sigh, or lick their lips and “chew”. They may want to snuggle or touch you. They might come sit closer or get up and walk around, or shake their body. Just observe what happens and see what changes for you and your pet. Connecting with our own bodies, and our own energy can help us have a deeper connection with our pet, so it’s worth exploring!
